A number of naval units affiliated to the Red Sea Naval Base have succeeded in thwarting an attempt to smuggle quantities of narcotic substances in the Southern Fleet’s operational range.
The confiscated narcotics were on board two small boats sailing off the Red Sea coast carrying four individuals.
The two boats were containing 1,442 kilogramme of cannabis, 172 kilogramme of hydro and 666 kilogramme of opium. The value of the seized drugs is estimated at nearly LE190 million.
The four smugglers together with the confiscated drugs were handed over to the authorities concerned for taking the necessary legal procedures.
The operation comes in implementation of the directives of the General Command of the Armed Forces to intensify efforts to secure and protect the country’s borders in various strategic directions.
It is also in continuation of the naval forces’ efforts to tighten security control over the coasts and confront smuggling attempts aimed at harming Egypt’s national security.
