The National Press Authority, chaired by engineer Abdel-Sadeq Al-Shorbagy, held a broad ceremony attended by chief editors of national publications to honor a group of journalists recently selected for roles in major institutions including the State Information Service, the National Council for Human Rights, the Union of African Journalists, and committees of the Supreme Council for Culture.
Al-Shorbagy congratulated the honorees, stressing that their selection reflects the depth of talent and influential voices within Egypt’s national press. He highlighted the role of state institutions in valuing national journalism for its contribution to awareness, enlightenment, and confronting misinformation.
Al-Shorbagy noted that national journalism, particularly print editions, has faced fierce challenges but managed to overcome them with the support of political leadership and the resilience of its journalists. He pointed to the Authority’s continuous monitoring and problem-solving across administrative and editorial levels, as well as efforts to optimize assets and launch new projects. He emphasized that national newspapers are regaining their shine, with print circulation rising and digital platforms undergoing significant modernization. The coming phase, he said, will be defined by “creativity” as the guiding principle.
Deputy chairman Alaa Thabet praised the honorees as shining stars across state institutions, underscoring the national press’s role as a soft power in shaping opinion and spreading enlightenment. Hamdy Rizk added that the Authority has succeeded in putting national journalism on the right track despite inherited challenges, and continues to work in all directions to strengthen its institutions.
The honorees expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, stressing that the progress of national journalism is the result of the Authority’s unwavering support and guidance. They commended the appreciation shown by state institutions for the contributions of national press professionals.
Among those honored was Editor-in-Chief of The Egyptian Gazette and The Egyptian Mail Mohamed Fahmy, joining the State Information Service, alongside other distinguished colleagues such as Alaa Thabet, Dr. Mohamed Fayez Farahat, Nevine Kamel, Gamal El-Keshki, Mahmoud Bassiouni, Ezzat Ibrahim, Ahmed Ayyoub, Dr. Ayman Abdel-Wahab, Dr. Osama El-Sayed, Ahmed Kamal, and Walid Tawgan. Their new roles reflect the growing influence of national journalism across cultural, human rights, and international platforms.
