CAIRO – General Coordinator of the National Dialogue Diaa Rashwan announced that the Board of Trustees of the National Dialogue will hold a meeting next Saturday, immediately after the new government is formed and takes the constitutional oath before President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
The purpose of the meeting is to raise its questions to the new government and coordinate with it regarding the implementation of the recommendations from the previous stages of the National Dialogue.
Rashwan, explained in a statement on Sunday night, that among the key recommendations the Board of Trustees will ask the new government to implement are the draft laws for the elections of the House of Representatives and the Senate, which are scheduled to take place in about a year, as well as the draft law for local councils. These electoral entitlements are of great importance and play significant roles in the political, popular, and partisan construction of the country, the statement added.
He stated that at the upcoming meeting, the Board of Trustees will emphasize the necessity and urgency of the government presenting a draft law to extend judicial supervision over all general elections in the country, in line with the unanimous decision of the National Dialogue, which was welcomed by the President in a special post. The board will also insist on the quick implementation of the new government’s recommendations from the economic dialogue segment, particularly regarding urgent and decisive measures to address the inflation and price increases that Egyptians are suffering from.
Moreover, the draft law for establishing the Anti-Discrimination Commission will be highlighted as a constitutional commitment and a crucial and necessary entitlement in the field of human rights.
Rashwan added that the upcoming Board of Trustees meeting will urgently follow up with the new government on the implementation of the executive plan set by the outgoing government, especially since Mostafa Madbouli remains its Prime Minister, with his declared and ongoing enthusiasm for cooperating with the National Dialogue.
The board will also urgently arrange to continue discussing topics that were not addressed in previous dialogue stages, such as the challenges faced by professional syndicates, amendments to pre-trial detention laws, the political parties law, penalties involving deprivation of freedom in cases of publishing and creativity, support for sports and youth centers, and sports clubs, read the statement.
Meanwhile, the board will develop a practical plan for discussing national security and foreign policy issues, as directed by the President, with preliminary outlines set by the Board of Trustees in its last meeting.
The Board of Trustees of the National Dialogue extended its congratulations to Madbouli on his appointment by President El-Sisi to form the new government. The board hopes that the new government will meet the expectations of Egyptians and the challenges they face and that it will have the ability, initiative, and speed to wisely address these challenges, providing realistic, effective, and just solutions, the statement added.
The board also extended its heartfelt congratulations to the great Egyptian people on the anniversary of their glorious revolution on June 30, 2013. It noted that the National Dialogue has rebuilt bridges among the political, syndicate, and civil alliances that participated in the June 30 Revolution, positioning it to serve the hopes, rights, and aspirations of this great people.
