CAIRO – Egyptian Chairperson of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsy called on all active parties and partners to work together and co-operate to make further progress toward women empowerment in climate change agenda.
Morsy’s remarks came while chairing a meeting on economic empowerment of women and ways of promoting sustainability of income, held Monday on the sidelines of the 66th round of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), currently in session in New York.
Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Said was present.
Morsy talked about the country’s vision on the fair environmental transition, which would take into account needs of women for a sustainable future to all.
She highlighted the importance of boosting women’s participation in environmental governorance phases.
It is important to ride out bad impacts and health and social repercussions of environmental deterioration for women, added Morsy.
For her part, Said said gender equality is a moral and economic necessity, adding economic empowerment of women is mostly important to stimulate economic growth and achieve progress and prosperity.
She spoke about her ministry’s action plans aimed at promoting economic empowerment for women.
Said pointed out the 2030 national strategy for empowering Egyptian women was launched as part of sustainable development goals, which include political empowerment, leadership, economic empowerment, social empowerment and protection against all forms of violence.
The meeting came as part of celebration marking International Women’s Day.
