Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs, Ambassador Ehab Fahmy, chaired on Sunday the senior officials’ preparatory meeting for the first session of the Egyptian-Moroccan Coordination and Follow-up Committee.
The Moroccan delegation was headed by the Director of Maghreb, Arab and Islamic Affairs at the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khalid Ben Cheikh.
The meeting was convened in preparation for the first session of the Committee, scheduled to be co-chaired on April 6 by the prime ministers of both countries.
The meeting brought together representatives from more than 50 ministries and government bodies from Egypt and Morocco, in addition to relevant technical sectors and the ambassadors of both countries.
The participants agreed on strengthening co-operation across a range of priority sectors of mutual interest, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallf said in a statement.
Ambassador Fahmy underscored that the convening of the Egyptian-Moroccan Coordination and Follow-up Committee represents a significant milestone as the first mechanism of its kind at this high level, marking the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations and opening broader prospects for co-operation across various fields.
He emphasised that this development reflects the shared political will of Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Moroccan King Mohamed VI to further advance relations between the two brotherly nations.
He also noted that the launch of this mechanism demonstrates both sides’ commitment to reinforcing coordination and consultation frameworks, while activating economic and trade co-operation channels with a view to establishing a genuine partnership that serves mutual interests and contributes to deeper economic integration.
The assistant foreign minister also pointed out that the meeting is taking place amid complex regional and international circumstances, including ongoing military operations against Iran and their implications for global markets, supply chains, and regional stability.
He reiterated Egypt’s condemnation of Iranian aggression against Arab states, stressing that Egypt continues its diplomatic efforts and intensive contacts at regional and international levels to contain escalation, achieve de-escalation, and prevent the expansion of the conflict into a broader regional confrontation.
