CAIRO – More than 1,000 detainees have been released since the reactivation of the Presidential Pardon Committee on April 26 upon directives issued by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

In a statement Thursday, the committee said that more detainees and prisoners will be released in the coming days.

The committee also pointed out to the full coordination maintained with the relevant State bodies to secure the release of detainees.

It also hailed the co-operation held with Prosecutor General Hamada el Sawy and Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik.

The committee affirmed that it received several names proposed for receiving a pardon from the political parties and the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR).

Several youths along with a host of journalists and women have been released, added the committee.

The committee, meanwhile, affirmed that it abides by impartiality and objectivity while doing its work, saying that its mission complies with the National Strategy for Human Rights.
