Egypt’s Minister of Finance Mohamed Maeet confirmed on Wednesday that since the beginning of March more basic goods and production requirements have been released to support industry.
Goods worth a total $1.7 billion have been released in response to directives from the political leadership in order to stabilise prices in the local markets.
“We are working with all state agencies to speed up the release of merchandise from our ports,” the minister said.
“Customs, the General Authority for Export and Import Control, and the National Authority for Food Safety are working together to ensure that priority is given to basic commodities, food, medicines, animal, and production requirements for industry,” the minister added.
Customs Authority head el-Shahat Ghatouri said that the newly developed electronic systems are accelerating the release of goods and their entry into local markets and production units.
