Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir made a tour on Sunday to follow up on the implementation of the East Nile Monorail project.

The minister stressed that the monorail would save fuel, reduce pollution, and ease traffic.

The project is implemented over 56.5 kilometres and is made up of 22 stations.

A consortium consisting of French rolling stock company, Alstom, and Egyptian contracting companies, Orascom and the Arab Contractors, carries out the project.

Minister el-Wazir toured some sections of the project, including a section in the Fifth Settlement where piling works are being carried out and columns and beams are being constructed along the expected path of the monorail.

He listened to an explanation from executive engineers overseeing the aforementioned works about project implementation rates.

The minister highlighted the importance of abiding by project timetables.

He said the project aims to advance Egypt’s dependence on clean and environment-friendly transportation.
