Karim Badawy, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Wealth, asserted the importance of working on reducing carbon emissions within the framework of co-operation and integration with the Ministry of Environment.

Badawy made the remarks during a meeting on Thursday with Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad to review a study on carbon capture and storage (CCS).

In a statement, the Ministry of Petroleum said that the ministers asserted that the meeting comes within the framework of integral, fruitful, and continuous work between both ministries on a number of environmental files, topped by reducing carbon emissions.

Cutting carbon emissions is urgent to support the competitiveness of Egyptian industrial products in the European markets, he said.

For her part, Fouad asserted that the CCS projects go along with the goals of Egypt to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and face the impacts of climate change.

She highlighted the importance of conducting the necessary studies to determine the environmental impact of the project to ensure the avoidance of any potential negative environmental effects, she said.
