Egyptian Minister of Environment Yassmin Fouad, the ministerial coordinator and envoy of the upcoming COP27 climate conference, asserted that Azhar has a very influential role in the Egyptian society and could greatly contribute to increasing environmental awareness among students and in society in general.
This came during a signing ceremony of a co-operation protocol between Azhar and the Ministry of Environment at the premises of Al Azhar Sheikhdom.
The protocol was signed by Azhar Undersecretary Mohamed Al Dheweni and Fouad, in the presence of Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed El Tayyeb.
It aims at enhancing joint co-operation between the two entities with the aim of increasing environmental awareness among the various segments of the society and elevating the behaviour of the society members towards the environment.
Fouad said the Ministry is seeking to involve Azhar in the activities of COP27 as the protocol stipulates establishing an electronic platform for handling environmental and climate change issues as well as other societal affairs.
She made it clear that the protocol also includes joining efforts to turn Azhar buildings and its affiliate facilities to eco-friendly ones through reducing the energy and water consumption rates.
The protocol also aims at encouraging post graduate students to prepare studies related to the environmental problems and produce various scientific articles on the importance of environmental awareness.
