CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah-Eddin Mostafa highlighted the crucial role of industry as a pillar of comprehensive economic development and national security due to providing foreign currency and added value benefiting citizens.
He noted that the Ministry of Military Production plays a vital role in supporting the Egyptian economy as it does not only supply the Armed Forces with weapons, ammunition, military equipment, and advanced electronic systems but also utilises production capacity in its various companies to meet civilian market needs with a wide range of high-quality, competitively priced products.
The ministry also contributes to many national projects within the state’s comprehensive development plan, the minister added.
Mostafa made the remarks during a meeting with members of the parliamentary industry committee under MP Mohamed Mostafa el-Sallab.
He expounded that the ministry operates under a unique integrated system targeting five main axes; industrial, research, information systems, construction, and training.
He noted that several companies in various domains are affiliated to the ministry, referring to the creation of a unified procurement sector to ensure governance and streamline supplier registration according to their specialties and required materials.
The Ministry of Military Production has extensive technological capabilities that contribute to promoting economic growth and sustainable development in Egypt, noting that the ministry operates about 258 production lines, he said.
He highlighted the ministry’s significant progress in military and civilian manufacturing, such as producing electric buses (110 units supplied to Cairo and Alexandria governorates, plus 100 BRT electric buses for the Arab Union for Land Transport), and manufacturing parts of the “Qute” vehicle locally.
Mostafa noted that the ministry also established a complex for producing eco-friendly cardboard packaging from banana tree fiber waste, highlighting that these projects are implemented within the framework of strategic partnerships with the private sector to maximize resource utilization and positively impact the Egyptian economy.
He underscored the importance of integration between the government and the parliament in achieving comprehensive development.
Meanwhile, MP Sallab commended the ministry’s punctual and high-quality completion of projects, localization of modern manufacturing technologies, and development of new military products enhancing national security.
He lauded also the ministry’s contribution to several national projects and presidential initiatives, such as Decent Life.
