Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag on Monday chaired a meeting of the new board of the Rural and Environmental Industries Support Fund to review finance programme for deprived and vulnerable families.
Experts in finance, investment, financial inclusion make up the new board in addition to officials from the Ministry of Local Development, the Federation of Productive Co-operatives, and the Agricultural Bank of Egypt, a ministry press release said.
El-Qabbag, who is also chairperson of the fund, reviewed plans to complete regulations and resolutions on the operation of the fund since its reform.
Discussions covered a proposal for a finance programme for micro-enterprises to be offered by the fund to NGOs and partner institutions in co-operation with the World Bank.
The fund aims to establish partnerships with local and international institutions to raise the economic level of poor families and increase their productive capabilities in line with government efforts for economic empowerment, informal economy integration, and providing self-employment opportunities in remote areas, el-Qabbag said.
Attendees agreed on the pressing need for small industrial and craft workshops in rural areas through partnerships with the private sector and the ministries of agriculture, local development and public enterprise sector.
