The national mental health platform has had more than 100,000 visitors since its launch in March 2022, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Thursday.
Some 5,000 virtual treatment sessions have been conducted, the statement added.
The aim of the platform is to dispense mental health services free of charge for everyone.
Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said mental health education programmes and awareness campaigns are intended to remove the stigma associated with mental illness.
“We aim to integrate mental health services offered electronically with the Health Insurance system, and train service providers to diagnose mental disorders,” the spokesman added.
Mental Health and Addiction Treatment General Secretariat chief Mona Abdel Maqsoud said 57 per cent of platform users are women while 43 per cent are men.
“One-fifth were married, 82 per cent were single,” Abdel Maqsoud added.
“Most users were from the 15-20 age group, 60 per cent were unemployed,” she said, pointing out that the majority of users were Cairo residents.
The platform is a result of co-operation between the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, the National Information Centre at the Ministry of Health and Population, the World Health Organisation, and the University of British Columbia in Canada.
