Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Abdelaziz Konsowa, who is also acting Minister of Culture, honoured on Monday Haya Amr Fawzy, a third-year medical student at New Giza University, for helping people injured in the collapse of a mall in Cairo’s Fifth Settlement.
Konsowa praised the student’s humanitarian response, saying her initiative reflected the values of solidarity and compassion rooted in Egyptian society.
He said her actions demonstrated courage, humanity and a willingness to support others in times of crisis.
The minister also praised Fawzy for helping the injured despite the difficult and frightening circumstances surrounding the incident.
He stressed the importance of remaining calm, showing courage and taking responsibility when others need help.
Konsowa highlighted the importance of supporting positive role models among Egyptian youth, noting that building young people goes beyond academic achievement to include values such as compassion, cooperation, responsibility and service to others.
Fawzy expressed her appreciation for the minister’s recognition, saying that helping the injured was a humanitarian duty and that she did not hesitate to assist them in the first moments following the incident.
She added that helping others in such circumstances is a humanitarian and moral responsibility that everyone should uphold.
