Egypt’s Ministry of Supply announced presenting meat and poultry in the outlets of the Holding Company for Food Industries at prices between 15% to 20% less than others in the local market as part of preparations of the ministry for Eidul Adha in addition to contracting on 30,000 livestock heads to be slaughtered at Egyptian butcheries and sold in 1,350 retail stores.
In a statement on Tuesday, Supply Minister Ali el Meselhi said the ministry targets to present 20,000 fresh livestock heads via 1,500 different outlets including retail stores and mobile vans during Eidul Adha.
Meanwhile, Executive Chairman of the company Ahmed Hassanein said that the countries from which we import meat are Sudan, Djibouti, Uruguay and India, adding that the livestock heads come alive and are slaughtered in Toshka and Safaga.
The meat will be sold at prices less than the local market by 15% to 20%, Executive member of the Egyptian Company for Meat and Poultry and Food Supplies Mahmoud el Saadany said, adding that the price of local meat is LE335, Sudanese meat is LE285, Uruguay frozen lamb meat is LE335 and local lamb meat is LE360 per kg.
Spokesman for the ministry Ahmed Kamal said that big quantities of basic commodities are pumped into the market including 180,000 tons of sugar more than the normal rate, 60,000 tons of oils, 20,000 tons of pasta and 15,000 tons of rice.
Retail stores will be open to consumers during the Day of Arafah and on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd days of Eidul Adha, he said.
