CAIRO- Egypt’s Minister of International Co-operation Rania El Mashat said the World Bank Group is a key development partner of the Egyptian government to support its comprehensive and sustainable economic growth through a variety of programs in the fields of food security, investment in human capital and social protection.
The minister’s remarks were made during her meeting with President of the World Bank Group David Malpass, who intends to step down from his position by the end of the Bank Group’s fiscal year on June 30 after serving more than four years. The meeting was held on the fringe of the World Bank Group Spring meetings for 2023.
In a statement released by the Ministry of International Cooperation, Mashat extended thanks to Malpass on his efforts to support partnership between Egypt and the WB in the past years along with implementing a number of projects which top the State’s development Agenda for 2030.
She also pointed out to Malpass’s support to approve the Egypt’s Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR) for 2023-2027 which aims at starting a new chapter of fruitful cooperation between the two sides in the coming years.
Malpass paid a visit to Egypt during his participation in Sharm El Sheikh Climate Summit (COP27) as he witnessed with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli the launching of CCDR report for the first time in the Middle East and Africa region, praising Egypt’s efforts in introduce an all-out economic reform.
Egypt’s Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR) explores the challenges and opportunities for improving the alignment of Egypt’s development goals with its climate ambition. It identifies opportunities to reduce inefficiencies, manage risk, and strengthen the foundation for increased private-sector participation.
In addition, it offers a set of policy options and investment opportunities that, if implemented within five years, can deliver short-term benefits in selected sectors while also creating momentum toward important long-term benefits
