CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of International Co-operation Rania Mashat said the wastewater treatment project in Helwan represents a model for contribution to promoting efficiency and sustainability of wastewater treatment in south Cairo governorate.
Mashat said about two million citizens will benefit from the project by 2037.
She made the remarks in a video marking the launch of the project which is funded by the EU at 25.5 million euros and ran by the French Development Agency.
The minister added that the project contributes to safe re-use of water in agricultural purposes.
According to Mashat, the launch of the project reflects the importance of joint action with bilateral and multilateral development co-operation partners, especially the EU, in view of the state’s efforts to implement mega national projects.
The minister added that the project works on achieving the goals on the ‘Decent Life’ initiative through securing an integrated package of services, especially at health and social levels.
She noted that the co-operation portfolio with the EU stands at over 1 billion euro non-refundable grants.
