President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to de-escalating tension in the region, and stressed the necessity of halting ongoing hostilities and safeguarding the sovereignty and stability of Arab states.
The president also warned of the broader economic consequences of continued conflict, highlighting potential disruptions to global supply chains and rising energy prices, and reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of any actions that undermine regional security under any pretext.
Sisi received a telephone call on Thursday from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, during which the two leaders praised the longstanding and robust historical ties between Egypt and Malaysia, and exchanged warm greetings on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
According to the Presidency Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy, the discussions addressed key regional developments, including the evolving situation in the region involving Iran.
The Malaysian prime minister commended Egypt’s diplomatic efforts under President Sisi to contain tensions and promote a peaceful resolution, affirming Malaysia’s support and its intention to enhance coordination with Egypt in this regard.
The call also covered the latest developments in Gaza and the West Bank, as Ibrahim underscored the Egypt’s pivotal role in securing the Sharm el-Sheikh ceasefire agreement and emphasised the need for its full implementation, particularly with regard to the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
He confirmed Malaysia’s intention to provide further aid to Gaza in coordination with the relevant Egyptian authorities, and expressed strong condemnation of Israeli actions in the West Bank.
The two sides further reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the distinguished bilateral relationship between Egypt and Malaysia, with a shared focus on expanding co-operation across multiple sectors.
They also agreed to advancing economic, trade, and investment partnerships, including increasing Malaysian investment flows into Egypt, Spokesman el-Shennawy said.
