Egyptian Minister of Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati said that a major campaign for removing waste from the Nile River on September 17 aims at protecting the Nile from pollution and plastic waste.
Abdel Aati discussed with a number of the Irrigation Ministry leaders and Head of Youth Loves Egypt Foundation Ahmed Fathy preparations for the campaign that will coincide with the “World Cleanup Day” – the biggest civil activity to remove waste around the world where 191 countries take part.
During the meeting, Abdel Aati said that the campaign aims at protecting the Nile from pollution and plastic waste in addition to maintaining water biological diversity.
This comes within the framework of preparations for holding 5th Cairo Water Week and the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27), he said.
Abdel Aati urged the biggest number of youth and school students to participate in this activity in light of working on raising the environmental awareness about the risks of water pollution, asserting the importance of the participation of the NGOs in the different governorates.
The campaign is held under the auspices of the ministries of irrigation and local development, Youth Love Egypt Foundation, a private company and a number of international organisations concerned and with the participation of 16 Nile-view governorates.
