CAIRO – Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam said maintenance works at navigational locks come as part of projects to modernize, rehabilitate and maintain irrigation facilities, which are implemented by the ministry in various governorates across the country.
The move comes in light of a strategic plan for the replacement and renovation of major water installations on the Nile River, its tributaries and the main canals, Sewilam added.
The minister made the remarks as he received a report on maintenance works at navigational locks in the barrages of Esna, Nagaa Hammadi and Assiut, as well as in Damietta.
