Egyptian Minister of Finance and Chairman of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance Mohamed Maeet is to participate Tuesday, in the “Healthcare Financing” forum held by the World Bank under the title “Investing in Health in the Post-Pandemic Era – Challenges of Health Financing” in Washington, on the sidelines of the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
During the forum, the minister – according to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday – will review the Egyptian experience in implementing the comprehensive health insurance system for all family members, by working on establishing the foundations of more efficient financing systems and building huge reserves to enhance the financial sustainability of this comprehensive health system.
The ministr will discuss strengthening cooperation with international partners to achieve human development and promote the health sector, launching new strategic partnerships to support efforts to improve healthcare services provided to citizens in Egypt; targeting the provision of these integrated services effectively and sustainably with financial protection for the needy.
Also, Mai Fareed, the Minister’s Assistant for Economic Justice and Acting Executive Director of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, participates as a key speaker in the forum in a session titled “Enhancing Cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to Address Health Financing Challenges in the Post-Pandemic World”, and a session titled “Social Health Insurance and Fair Progress Towards Universal Coverage”.
Mai Fareed said, “This forum is a real opportunity to review Egypt’s experience in comprehensive health reform and the Authority’s ability to manage and finance this advanced system and gradually extend the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance to all Egyptians.”
She emphasized the importance of stimulating various international partnerships with major bodies, institutions, and entities concerned with health financing and comprehensive health coverage to continue advancing the comprehensive health insurance system in Egypt and encouraging an investment climate in it, pointing out that the World Bank is one of the most important international development partners for the success of comprehensive health insurance in Egypt.
