Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maeet has reviewed a report on the efforts exerted by the Egyptian Customs Authority (ECA) to reinforce control at the customs outlets in cooperation with the bodies concerned, calling for rallying efforts of custom officials in performing their job duties, taking into account the facilitation of customs procedures to stimulate investment.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Finance Ministry, Chairman of the ECA El-Shahhat Ghattori said tightening the control procedures at customs outlets contributed to curbing smuggling attempts, preserving the rights of the public treasury, and protecting the national industry and Egyptian society from dangerous goods or harming national security.
Ghatouri pointed out that 1,055 smuggling operations have been reported during April, with dues of such cases amounting to about LE189,713m, while the value compensations and overdue fines have reached 398,711 million.
