Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli affirmed on Wednesday that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s remarks on the draft Criminal Procedure Law reflect the political leadership’s determination to strengthen rights and freedoms, and to issue legislation that meets the aspirations of the Egyptian people while reinforcing Egypt’s standing as a model in justice and governance.

Addressing the plenary session of the House of Representatives yesterday at the opening of the sixth session of the second legislative term, Madbouli stressed that the government had worked diligently to draft balanced provisions for the law that uphold justice. Yet, he said, President Sisi saw the need for further safeguards and clarifications to enhance transparency and ensure the law embodies the highest standards of fairness.

“The president’s comments express a genuine commitment to consolidating the foundations of rights and freedoms in all their dimensions,” Madbouli told MPs, adding that the law must reflect the ambitions of the Egyptian people and highlight the country’s leadership in building a modern justice system that can serve as a benchmark for others.

The prime minister praised parliament’s efforts over the past five years in reviewing and enacting a wide range of legislation that enabled the state to deliver on its economic and social programmes. He also congratulated the Armed Forces on the upcoming anniversary of the October Victory, describing them as “the solid shield of the Egyptian people and a cornerstone of national stability.”

Madbouli underlined the House of Representatives’ keenness to frame the law through a national and legislative vision that crowns years of public dialogue and deliberation, ensuring its provisions remain balanced and just. He reiterated the government’s full commitment to continued dialogue, co-operation and integration with the legislature in service of the nation.
