The Egyptian Minister of Health stressed on Thursday that the locally-manufactured Covid-19 Sinovac/VACSERA vaccine is safe and effective, affirming that there is no difference between the Egyptian and the Chinese versions of the vaccines.

Effectiveness of all vaccines rates across the world range from 86 to 92 percent, Ministry Spokesman Khaled Megahed said in press statements. He added that vaccines are now available for all Egyptians.

The Egyptian vaccine is produced with the very same techniques used for foreign ones, and is subjected to adequate tests, Megahed said. He also revealed that Egypt will soon manufacture the Moderna vaccine;as negotiations are underway with the US parent company in this regard.

There are various Covid-19 vaccines in Egypt, Megahed said noting that Egypt is one of the countries that have obtained large amounts of shots to vaccinate citizens, he said.

The ministry is carrying on with its efforts to combat the pandemic nationwide, taking all necessary precautionary measures, and has offered various ways to receive inquiries, including the hotlines 105, and 15335, and the WhatsApp No. 01553105105, as well as the smart phone app SehetMisr (Egypt’s health).

Megahed noted that Egypt would soon receive 2 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine from China.

He referred to the well-established ties between the political leadership in Egypt and China, and stressed the importance of expanding co-operation and partnership with the Chinese side in the production of vaccines and the transfer of the relevant technology.
