Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said on Wednesday that the state has been keen on maintaining the health and safety of citizens since the emergence of coronavirus pandemic, without affecting the production rates.

Speaking at a press conference, Madbouli called on citizens to abide by precautionary measures, especially owners of shops and markets, stressing that the state will close any violating facility for at least two weeks. He added that the closure period could be extended for four weeks if the violation was repeated.

“Nearly 2.5 million citizens – out of six million who registered to receive the vaccine – have been vaccinated so far,” he said, adding that Egypt will start producing the first Covid-19 vaccines this month in cooperation with foreign partners. Madboul stressed that the state seeks to provide the vaccine for not less than 40% of the Egyptian people by the end of this year.
