Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem el-Gazzar on Wednesday checked on progress to date in development projects in the New Administrative Capital, including the Iconic Tower in the Business District area.
Around 74 floors, with 360 metres high, have been built in the iconic tower, which is the highest in Africa.
The 400-metre-high tower will be one of 20 luxurious towers in the NAC’s business district, consisting of 79 floors. The project, costing around $3 billion, is a joint venture between the New Urban Communities Authority and China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).
El-Gazzar said that the progress rate of the third residential neighborhood dubbed ‘Capital Residence’ is 92 per cent. The surface area of the neighbourhood is 1,016 feddans (acres) and consists of eight districts.
Electro-mechanical work in the first and eight districts has been completed.
The neighborhood encompasses a total of 24,130 residential units. The breakdown is 697 buildings having 19,944 apartments; 328 villas; 157 townhouses having 624 units.
The minister said that the Central Park in the NAC is finished by 50 percent.
Once completed, it will be the largest in the Middle East and the second largest in Africa stretching over 10 kilometres and spanning over 1,000 feddans, el-Gazzar said.
The park includes world-class recreational places, green spaces, lakes, restaurants, and playgrounds.
More than 92 per cent of constructions in ‘Garden City’ neighborhood in the NAC are over.
The project is built on 885 feddans and includes 21,953 residential units, as it has 459 villas, and 385 buildings encompassing 21,494 flats.
As for commercial units, their number is 513 in addition to facilities like educational, medical, administrative, and entertainment establishments. “Garden City” is the fifth residential neighborhood in the New Capital and is named after Cairo’s Garden City neighborhood built in the Khedivian era. It is executed by nine Egyptian construction firms.
