As we are just a few months away from the UNFCCC’s COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, the French Institute in Egypt organised a major event that took place during the period March 25-27. The Making Sustainable Cities event gave a chance for major organisations and youth-led initiatives that are taking centre stage in climate action.
The event also focused on offering solutions for sustainability and trying to save our cities from the ever-growing environmental degradation. The event was attended and inaugurated by Ambassador of France in Egypt Marc Baréty and Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad.
During the three days, 22 Egyptian and international initiatives displayed their work and offered networking and collaboration opportunities to the public.
Speaking to the Egyptian Mail, Ahmed Fathy, Founder of Youth Loves Egypt Foundation (YLE), said the YLE has a great strategy and activities under the main theme of the road to COP27. YLE was actively present in the event, highlighting its activities including Climate Pioneers Programme and Nile Tree initiative.
“We still have a lot to do,” Fathy added.
The event was full of green initiatives. Water dispensers were reusable pieces of pottery to get water in reusable cups. During the panels and conferences, no plastic bottles were used. Only glass carafes and glasses were available.
