Minister of Education Tarek Shawki on Monday plans to make up for teaching staff shortages in school.
The announcement came after his meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli to look into the possibility of recruiting new teachers and draw on the budget for next fiscal year 2022-2023.
About 960,000 teachers look after 25 million students, the minister said, adding that it was not a question of supply and demand, but one of distribution in the three stages of education.
While the first three years of primary are short of teachers, there is no shortage of secondary teachers, Shawki said.
The focus on curricula and infrastructure will turn to staffing, Shawki added.
New recruits to the teaching profession should have the requisite skills and talent to guarantee quality of education.
