CAIRO- Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed on Sunday launched the second phase of the national polio vaccination campaign from Asmarat Medical Center for Egyptian and non-Egyptian children under the age of five.

The four-day phase, set to start on March 28 until 31, comes as part of the national campaign that targets 16.7 million children for free; with a view to keeping the country polio-free, said Health Ministry Spokesman Khaled Megahed.

The campaign is implemented in light of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s vision for improving public health, as well as achieving the sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030, he added.

The spokesman also said the first phase of the campaign that was launched on February 28 has resulted in vaccinating 16,533,838 children, including 17,100 non-Egyptians living in the country.

He also said Zayed urged all families to head for the nearest places where medical teams are distributed to vaccine their children to guarantee their health and safety, urging all to take all precautionary measures during the campaign.

He added that the second phase shall be implemented in all governorates.
