CAIRO – The cabinet media centre denied media reports claiming that Egypt’s strategic reserves of wheat were affected by the instability of international food market.
In a statement on Thursday, the centre said it contacted the Ministry of Supply that dismissed the news as baseless.
The ministry underlined that the wheat reserves are sufficient for several months, noting that the local wheat harvest season would contribute to securing wheat until December.
The ministry said the state is taking all needed measures to diversify its wheat supply resources, referring also to the state plans for expanding wheat silos.
The ministry noted that the current wheat reserves are enough for four months, sugar for more than five months, and rice for more than eight months.
The centre called on social media users to verify the authenticity of the news circulated to avoid confusing public opinion.
