Gov. denies cancelling bread subsidy for ration cards holders

CAIRO- The Cabinet Media centre has dismissed as groundless reports that the government intends to remove bread subsidy for ration cards holders.

In a statement Monday, the centre said it contacted the Ministry of Supply and Internal trade which denied the reports, pointing out the government will continue bread subsidy for ration cards holders at 5 piasters a loaf.

It said the bread subsidy was increased in the 2022/2023 budget to more LE22 billion benefitting 71 million citizens.
