Egypt’s House of Representatives Speaker Hanafi el Gebali agreed on Sunday in principle on a bill regulating the possession of dangerous animals, particularly dogs.
The bill, submitted by head of the Local Administration Committee Ahmed el Segini and 60 other lawmakers, aims at regulating the possession by individuals of animals deemed dangerous as well as measures to control the spread of stray dogs in the country.
The bill follows the death of Mohamed Moheb Al Mawi, who was left in a coma for a month after a pit bull pounced on him as he returned home with his son in Skeikh Zayed City, in Egypt’s Greater Cairo area.
