Minister of Environment Yasmeen Fouad Wednesday met Japanese Ambassador to Cairo Nuki Masaki to discuss ministry efforts to limit the use of single-use plastic bags.
The minister hailed the co-operation with the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) over the last 20 years in the field of environment.

The $3 million project is being implemented with the cooperation of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) over three years.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Plastics Technology Centre and the Chamber of Industries are also collaborating on the project.
“The ministry has worked hard to raise awareness of limiting the use of plastic bags,” Fouad said.
“There were special campaigns in Hurghada and the Zamalek district of Cairo with the participation of certain stores,” she added.

Successful experiments to cut down the use of plastic and encourage recycling have been carried out in Cairo’s Manshiyet Nasser district.
