Twenty people were killed and three others were injured when a bus collided with a truck on the Eastern Desert Road, Assiout Governorate in Upper Egypt. Both vehicles caught fire.
Thirty-six ambulances took the deaths and injured to Eman Hospital and Assiut General Hospital, a health ministry statement said, adding that the injuries included cuts, bruises and fractures.
Governor of Assiout EssamSaad said the injured and the victims’ families must be given all support and care. Saad offered condolences in a statement.
Road accidents in Egypt are believed to have declined significantly due to new road projects in recent years.
