CAIRO – Trainees of the Ministry of Local Development won the prize of the best applied project in a training course it participated in under the rubric “boosting the economic empowerment of the Egyptian women” organised by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and UN Women in coordination with the National Council for Women within the framework of “Rabeha” project which is funded by the Canadian government.

In a statement on Monday, the ministry said that 47 trainees including 21 from the ministry and the governorates of Qena, Sohag, Beni Suef, Minya and Fayyoum in addition to 26 trainees from the ministries of international co-operation, youth and sports and trade and industry and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA).

Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy gave directives to study and generalise the applied project which is under the rubric “producing Eco-friendly innovative products from the wastes of palm trees (palm wicker)” in al Alam village in Fayyoum governorate.

The joint program which was passed by the trainees copes with the strategy of sustainable development and Egypt vision 2030 and aims at increasing the economic participation 6,300 women in the Egyptian private sector in some governorates, he added.
