CAIRO – Egyptian Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi had talks on Thursday with Sylvain Merlen, Deputy Resident Representative of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Egypt, and UNDP Gender and Local Development Team Leader Heba Abul-Wafa.
The meeting was also attended by Hisham Helbawi, Programme Manager of Local Development in Upper Egypt.
The talks tackled the final touches of the document of technical support program presented by the ministry in the fields of decentralization and local economic development.
The four-year programme will be launched in the beginning of 2022 in collaboration with the UNDP.
Shaarawi hailed the level of co-operation between the ministry and all UN organisations in the fields of local administration reform programmes.
He added that the technical support programme will be launched in four governorates; Fayyoum, Beni Suef, Luxor and Aswan.
He noted that the programme will promote the ministry’s efforts in implementing the presidential initiative “Decent Life”.
For her part, Merlen thanked Shaarawi for his support to render ongoing programmes and projects successful, hailing the programme of developing the Egyptian countryside and the Egyptian initiative “Decent Life”.
