Cairo – Egyptian Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi directed executive officials to keep the highest state of alert nationwide to face up to the current wave of bad weather, saying rainfall stopped in the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Menoufia, Behira and Daqahlia.

He also instructed the operation room at the ministry to continue coordination with the Cabinet’s central operation room to address any eventuality, according to a statement released by the Local Development Ministry on Thursday.

The minister ordered the heads of districts to be present on ground to follow up the operations of removing water from streets in the rain-hit governorates, the statement said.

The minister said Saint Catherine’s City in South Sinai Governorate is showered by snow rain, noting that Sharm el-Sheikh Port was closed over high waves, it added.

Shaarawi said the governorates of Alexandria, Damietta, Marsa Matrouh and Kafr el-Sheikh were hit by light to moderate rain, pointing to the closure of Burullus Port before fishing and navigation, according to the statement.
