The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has started offering tours of specific areas from March 9, 2023. The tours are part of preparations for the opening of the museum, whose date has not been announced yet.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the tours, which can only be booked online, include the gardens, the commercial area with big-name Egyptian brand stores, restaurants, cafeterias, and the gift shop.
Visitors will have access to the hanging obelisk area and the main reception hall, or Great Hall, where the statue of King Ramses II, the pillar of Pharaoh Merneptah and two statues of a king and queen from the Ptolemaic Era are on display, the statement said.
The museum’s exhibition halls housing the Tutankhamun treasures, Great Staircase, the Khufu Solar Boat and other internal sections in the museum will be closed until the official opening, the ministry statement said.
The date of the official opening will be announced after time to allow world leaders, heads of state and VIPs to attend the inauguration of the museum.
