The Egyptian Local Development Minister Hisham Amna said the ministry implemented projects at LE225 billion for supporting sustainable development and infrastructure.
He noted that 38 million citizens benefited from these projects which contributed to generating 7.5 million jobs.
In a statement on Wednesday, he said that the ministry’s strategy for confronting climate change focuses on several axes, topped by governance and localizing sustainable development.
He said the ministry seeks to adopt institutional and strategic mechanisms for confronting climate change and curbing its negative impact.
The ministry aims through this programme to invest LE34 billion to support the infrastructure needed for managing municipalities waste and improving environment and air quality.
The ministry also allocated LE12 billion for landfills and waste recycling, he said.
He added that the Local Development Fund and Mashroak programme earmarked LE173.5 million for promoting heritage handicrafts. The number of beneficiaries reach 23 million people.
Mashroak programme financed 172,000 projects at total investments of LE18.5 billion, thus securing one million jobs.
