“Sanad el Kheir” Initiative that was launched by the Ministry of Local Development to provide food commodities at affordable prices achieved sales of LE148 million within 34 weeks, Local Development Minister Hisham Amna said.
The initiative aims at supporting low and medium income citizens and reaching out to the biggest segment of citizens in the most-in-need villages, the minister noted in a statement on Wednesday.
Amna gave directives to expand the range of the initiative in five new governorates including Fayoum, Suez, Beheira, South Sinai and Sohag within the coming weeks to cover most of the populous neighbourhoods and villages especially in the high seasons.
The initiative was launched by the ministry in March at the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to rally efforts of the State to support the citizens in the most densely populated and needy districts to provide them with food commodities at reduced prices and high quality, especially in light of the increase of prices due to the current global global crisis, he said.
The initiative covered 12 governorates including Cairo, Giza, Beni Suef, Dakahliya, Kafr el-Sheikh, Assiut, Ismailia, Qena, Minya, Aswan, Luxor and Gharbiya.
