CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Saeed said a sum of LE100 billion has so far been spent since the start of the first phase of the Decent Life Presidential Initiative during the 2021/2022 fiscal year.

It has been divided between drinking water and sanitation services, electricity, health, educational and residential services, roads and bridges, in addition to rehabilitation and lining of canals, the minister added.

This came as part of a report Saeed received on the status of the Decent Life Initiative to develop the countryside in the 2021/2022 fiscal year and how much the implemented works go in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The minister described Decent Life as one of the most important national projects that aims to improve the standard of living in the Egyptian countryside via reducing poverty and unemployment rates as well as improving the general quality of citizens’ lives.

The initiative targets reaching residents of all rural areas, constituting 58% of Egypt’s population, in three years, she noted.

Saeed added that the initiative has been deemed among the best practices and accelerators of sustainable development goals on the United Nations platform.
