Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation el-Sayed el-Qoseir on Wednesday opened the largest artificial insemination centre in the Middle East.
The centre, located in Alexandria Governorate, comes under the presidential rural development initiative Decent Life.
Affiliated with the Sustainable Agricultural Investments and Livelihoods Project, the centre produces 600,000 doses of semen per year.
The centre will lead to improvement in the quality of semen products and better stock breeding, the minister said, adding that the facility is home to 62 bulls of the top breeds.
This will help to close the food gap, reduce meat imports and improve the livelihoods of farmers, the minister said.
El-Qoseir urged livestock breeders to adopt up-to-date methods to raise livestock in order to increase their income.
The centre will provide genetic improvement services to create excellent breeds, leading to doubled meat and milk production, he said.
