CAIRO – Egyptian Labour Minister Mohamed Gobran said Tuesday that the new labor law bill, approved by the House of Representatives this month, reflects the political leadership’s directives to enact a balanced law, ensure job security in the workplace, and create an attractive investment climate.

In statements to MENA on Tuesday on the occasion of celebrating Labor Day, Gobran said that his ministry will launch soon the National Employment Strategy, in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and a number of domestic and international labor partners. This strategy will serve as a document and strategy for addressing all labor market challenges at home and abroad, he added.

He further noted that the labor ministry is working with the government to reduce the unemployment rate, which went down from 13 percent in 2014 to 6.4 percent in 2025.The labor ministry managed to secure 378,174 jobs for youth in the private sector in nine months from July 2024 until April 2025, and is keen to implement the minimum wages without exceptions, Gobran said.

The ministry also implemented 379 vocational and skill training programs to improve labor market, for 5,793 male and female trainees, the minister said.It also provided 254 training programs for 2,816 trainees; 752 males and 2,064 females in 189 ‘Decent Life’ villages, he added. Also, digital services platforms have been launched for job-seekers inside and outside the country, according to the labor minister.
