Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag on Wednesday attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) for a training programme.
The programme, ‘Start Your Journey for Training and Employment’ comes under the umbrella of the Fursa (Opportunity) Programme, which provides job opportunities for beneficiaries of the Takaful and Karama, Fursa and the Decent Life initiative.
Under the terms of the MoU, the support for the establishment of ‘Start Your Journey’ units will be given.
El-Qabbag said her ministry is shifting its strategy to target simultaneous social and economic development.
This comes in addition to restructuring the ministry by creating departments to promote women’s economic empowerment and to involve young people into the labour market.
The ministry also provides access to micro-projects with soft loans and grants.
USAID said in a statement: “Through a sustainable and deep partnership, the United States and Egypt will continue to create programmes that connect young men and women with the skills they need to enter the labour market and reduce unemployment in Egypt.”
