The Japanese government is to provide $3.5 million for displaced people and returnees in countries bordering Sudan — Egypt, Chad and South Sudan.
The sum of $1 million will be allocated to those in Egypt through the Egyptian Red Crescent, which means that 150,000 people will receive food aid through the World Food Programme (WFP) and 80,000 will hygiene kits and water through the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), a statement by the Japanese Embassy in Cairo said.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said during his visit to Cairo last month that Japan is ready to provide humanitarian aid for displaced persons in three countries that share a border with Sudan.
