CAIRO – Irrigation Minister Hani Sweilam said on Sunday the ministry plays a pivotal role in carrying out Decent Life initiative that was launched in January 2019 to secure a decent life to Egyptians.
He stressed that water resources projects play important role in achieving sustainable development as water is the main element in any development project.
He said 3,280 kilometers of canals had been rehabilitated within the first phase of Decent Life initiative.
He said this phase targets 4,000 kilometres and that the rehabilitation of the remaining 770 kilometres are in-progress.
The rehabilitation of irrigation canals is part of the ministry’s scheme to boost water development projects and apply modern irrigation techniques, he said.
Also the ministry implemented several projects with the aim of protecting River Nile from floods and using solar energy for pumping water out of wells, the minister said.
