CAIRO – Egyptian Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Aati has discussed with Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Petteri Taalas ways of boosting co-operation between the ministry and the WMO in the water resources sphere.
During the meeting, Abdel Aati reviewed ongoing preparations for organising the Fifth Cairo Water Week, which will be held under the title “Water at the Heart of Climate Action.”
Abdel Aati, meanwhile, underlined the crucial role which will be played by the WM during the proceedings of the Fifth Cairo Water Week.
The recommendations of the meeting will be referred to the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change (UNFCCC –COP27), which will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November.
The meeting also tackled co-operation between the ministry and the WMO in preparing for the water’s pavilion, which will be held as part of the proceedings of the upcoming climate conference.
The water’s pavilion is considered a great opportunity to review the challenges besetting the African Continent in the water sphere, said the minister during the meeting.
The meeting, which further agreed on an action plan of the International Coalition for Water and Climate, also reviewed Egypt’s contributions in this respect.

Abdel Aati also posted Taalas on the mega projects, which are implemented by the ministry, which include improving the irrigation system along with coping with the negative consequences of the climate change.
The projects also include beach protection projects that aim to adapt to the rise in sea-levels as well as the use of advanced technologies in the water resources management.
