Egyptian Minister of Irrigation Hany Swailem discussed with UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt Elena Panova and her accompanying delegation co-operation between the Ministry of Irrigation and the UN-affiliated organisations concerned with water.
Both sides conferred on the priorities of co-operation between the Egyptian government and the UN in the field of water and reformulating the framework of strategic co-operation within the coming five years which includes maintaining natural resources topped by the water resources via rationalising water use.
Swailem pointed out to the increasing and clear impact of the climate change on the water sector, asserting the importance of transferring the international initiatives and pledges related to adaptation with climate change into a tangible reality via implementing projects that contribute to facing these challenges.
The meeting tackled the executive situation of the project of boosting adaptation with the climate change in the North Coast and Nile Delta which is funded by the Green Climate Fund in co-operation with the UN Development Programme to face the increase in sea level and acute climate phenomena which affect coastal areas.
Swailem said that this project, which is implemented by the Egyptian state, is part of projects to protect beaches to face the impacts of climate change and protect individuals and facilities from them.
