Egypt’s Irrigation Minister Hany Sowailam has underscored the importance of studies related to canal of Suez to ensure meeting water needs of adjacent cultivated areas.
The minister’s remarks came at a meeting held on Saturday to follow up the progress of an integrated study on the canal, which is carried out in cooperation with the World Bank, in the presence of a host of respective officials.
The minister reviewed solutions for challenges facing the canal, noting that the canal is also important for meeting the drinking water needs of Suez city.
He also underlined the need to optimize the use of canal water in this area, urging farmers to use the modern irrigation systems.
