RIYADH – Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hany Suwilam, Regional Director Middle East and North Africa of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Wessam el Beih, UNDP Water Manager Mary Matthews and UNDP Environment Expert Mohamed Baioumy discussed preparation for implementing the regional project of water desalination by solar energy for agricultural purposes under the umbrella of AWARe in co-operation with the UNDP.
This came during a meeting on the sidelines of COP16 in Riyadh.
Suwilam pointed out to the measures taken to launch this pioneering regional project to use desalination technology in agriculture with the participation of Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia and Morocco.
Suwilam asserted the importance of cooperation between the four countries and regional and international organizations concerned in the applied research studies in the field of desalination in the for the intensified production of food.
He also asserted the importance of exchanging expertise and successful experiments between the different countries in this field.
